Why Are Helical Piles The Most Suitable Solution

Why Are Helical Piles The Most Suitable Solution For Delicate Ecosystems?
For fragile ecosystems, helical piles are extensively used for construction and connectivity purposes. What makes helical piles most suitable for this type of construction? Read on to find out.
If construction on a wetland, near the beach or any place with loose soil conditions is your concern, you must have come across helical piles and helical piers. Helical screw piles are basically helix plates that look like long screws that can be drilled into the ground until a solid earth is not found for supporting the construction. This is just like building the foundation of the structure, but instead of raising the structure from solid earth as done in case of concrete buildings, helical piles are pinned down from above to get the grip from rocks or earth. Although there are some alternate construction methods for areas such as beach fronts, shorelines and wetlands, helical piles have so far proved to be most effective, convenient and long-lasting. Here are a few reasons that make helical piers and helical piles suitable:

Easy Transportation and Installation

Not only is it easy to move around helical piles but they are also easy to maneuver and install. These are workable in single entry narrow paths as they can be installed with only one excavator and do not require extra machinery. There is no need to drill down the piers or drive them straight down, helical piers can be installed as the arm of the pile driving excavator can stretch away from the machine and reach out to the site. Helical piles are easy, fast and most effective.

Increased Structural Strength

As the ground rule for helical piles are to reach out to solid earth, the holding capacity is increased multifold with the installation of helical piles compared to concrete. For wetlands and tricky lands, there is no other system that provides the level of strength and stability the way helical piles do. These piles not only secure the land and protect the ecosystem but also provide tensile strength to the boardwalk without the need for drying up to increase the strength but effective immediately. Helical screw piles with round shafts are suitable for soft soils, beachfronts as well as riverbeds, and there is no other system that can be more correct or more advised for these uses.

Eco-Friendly Solution

Helical piles are called eco-friendly as they have very low environmental impact on the ecosystem during and post installation. The installation and maintenance of these piles are such that even a small distance from the installation is not affected at all as there are no grouts used that would contaminate the water, there are no spoils and spillages from the installation and only galvanized steel goes in to the water, nothing that would harm or threaten the wildlife.
